We make one of them, so read that part with that in mind.

Disclosure: We make LATW, so weigh our comparison accordingly. All prices below were checked on 4 November 2026 on each vendor’s own pricing page and are «as of November 2026». They change, so check again before you buy.

Why does Weglot get expensive?

Weglot sells plans in tiers. Each tier fixes two numbers: how many words you can translate and how many languages you can add. According to the Weglot pricing page (checked 4 November 2026, shown excluding VAT), the tiers look like this:

Plan

Monthly

Annual

Word limit

Languages

Free

€0

€0

2,000

1

Starter

€15

€150

10,000

1

Business

€29

€290

50,000

3

Pro

€79

€790

200,000

5

Advanced

€299

€2,990

1,000,000

10

Extended

€699

€6,990

5,000,000

20

Plans are charged in euros. The page also shows an estimated US dollar view (for example Pro at $87 per month), and says the final amount depends on the exchange rate on your subscription date.

Three details drive most of the pain.

1. The word limit counts across languages. The page defines it as «total unique words translated across all your languages. This is a fixed limit and does not renew.» So more languages and more content both push the same counter up. Read the definition against your own dashboard number, because it decides which tier you land on.

2. Language count forces tier jumps. Starter covers one language. Business covers three. Pro covers five. If you need two languages, you are on Business. If you need six, you are on Advanced, because there is nothing in between. The pricing page shows no per-language add-on.

3. Going over the limit has consequences. The Weglot pricing page FAQ says you get an email when you exceed your usage limit. With auto-upgrade on, the account moves to the next plan. Without it, «the translations will be discontinued until you upgrade your plan or delete the extra translations.» That is a hard stop on the live site, not a soft overage fee.

There is also a structural point. Weglot is a hosted service: translations are served through it. In our understanding, they are available while your subscription is active, and the pricing page does not say what happens to them when you cancel. Check Weglot’s terms on that before you decide, because it changes what you are really paying for. If translations only work while you pay, you are renting the translated site.

How to lower your Weglot bill without leaving

Before you switch anything, try these. Most cost nothing, but check what you are deleting first.

Check which tier you actually need. Compare your real language count with the plan limits. If you are on Pro but only use three languages, Business covers three, as long as your word count fits within 50,000.

Delete languages nobody visits. The language limit counts every language you add. A language with almost no traffic still takes a slot.

Delete translations you do not need. The FAQ names this as the alternative to upgrading when you hit the word limit. Old campaign pages, test pages and staging content count toward the same total.

Exclude pages that should not be translated. Admin-like pages, internal search results, legal boilerplate you handle separately, and duplicated listings add words but not value. Check your dashboard for the exclusion options.

Turn off auto-upgrade if you want control. Auto-upgrade is convenient, but it can move you up a tier without a decision. Without it you get an email and choose, but if you go over the limit and do nothing, translations stop on the live site, so watch for that email.

Pay annually. The page shows «2 months free» on annual billing. Pro is €79 monthly or €790 per year (as of November 2026).

If you do all of this and the plan still feels too big for the site, the problem is the pricing model, and the next sections are about that.

When Weglot is still the right choice

Paying more is fine when you get something you need. Weglot is the better fit when:

You want the fastest possible setup on most stacks, with a hosted language switcher.

You do not want to manage translation inside your CMS at all.

Your site is small. The Free and Starter plans are cheap for a few thousand words.

You value having one vendor, one invoice and one dashboard more than owning the translated content.

None of that is a weakness. It is a trade: you pay for convenience, and the price scales with the size of your site.

What other cost models look like

Different tools charge for different things. Here is a short, dated overview of what the main alternatives bill for, with prices from their own pages (checked 4 November 2026).

Tool

What you pay for

Price shown (as of November 2026)

TranslatePress

Yearly licence per number of sites; own Google or DeepL API keys not included

Personal €99 per year for 1 site; Business €199 for 3 sites; Developer €349 for unlimited sites

WPML

Yearly licence; AI words included per plan

Blog €39; CMS €99 with 22,500 AI words; Agency €199 with 45,000 AI words

Polylang Pro

Yearly licence; machine translation via your own DeepL key

From €99 per year for 1 site

ConveyThis

Subscription by words and languages

Starter $10 per month billed $120 per year (1 language, 60,000 words); Business $20 per month billed $240 per year (3 languages, 200,000 words)

GTranslate

Subscription by feature level

Free tier without search indexing; paid from $12 per month ($120 per year); URL translation starts on the $35 per month plan

A few notes for fairness. ConveyThis and GTranslate are subscription services like Weglot, and their cheaper tiers can be a real saving. GTranslate’s free tier excludes search engine indexing, and URL translation needs a higher plan. TranslatePress, WPML and Polylang are WordPress plugins that you install on your own site. Check each vendor’s terms on what happens to your translations after a licence ends. WPML includes a set number of AI words per plan, and its page says words are topped up at each renewal and do not expire. For a longer breakdown see our WPML pricing comparison, and for a wider list see 5 best Weglot alternatives.

Pay per word: a different cost shape

The other option is to stop paying for a plan and pay for the words you translate. That is how LATW Cloud works. We make it, so this section is ours and you should read it that way.

According to the LATW Cloud pricing page (checked 4 November 2026, USD, plus VAT where applicable):

Pay as you go has no monthly fee. You top up from $5.

Economy quality costs $0.0234 per 1,000 words into one language. Standard costs $0.468 and Premium costs $2.34 per 1,000 words.

Every job shows an estimate before it starts, and you are not billed above that estimate.

Translations are written natively into your site (WordPress, Drupal, PrestaShop or Webflow), so they stay on your site if you stop paying. On WordPress it works with WPML and Polylang, which hold the translated content.

Paid plans exist for agencies and heavy users, but you do not need one.

The next section compares a per-word price with a plan price. It is not a like-for-like feature comparison. LATW translates and writes the result into your CMS; it is not a hosted language switcher.

For WordPress sites there is a further option. The LATW plugin for WPML or Polylang can use your own AI key, so you pay your AI provider directly with no LATW usage fee. For many WordPress owners that works out cheaper still than Cloud. See latw.ai for the current Pro licence price.

A worked example: 2, 5 and 10 languages

Take a site with 50,000 words of content. That matches the example on the LATW pricing page, which puts a 50,000-word site into one language at about $1.17 on Economy.

Here is what each approach costs for the first translation. LATW figures are our calculation from the published per-1,000-word rates (50 × $0.0234 × number of languages for Economy; 50 × $0.468 × languages for Standard). The formula is words in thousands × rate × languages. The Weglot columns show the cheapest plan that fits, not a quote for your site.

Languages

Weglot, language count only (annual)

Weglot, if the 50,000 words count once per language (annual)

LATW Cloud, Economy (one-off)

LATW Cloud, Standard (one-off)

2

Business, €290 per year

Pro (100,000 words), €790 per year

$2.34

$46.80

5

Pro, €790 per year

Advanced (250,000 words), €2,990 per year

$5.85

$117.00

10

Advanced, €2,990 per year

Advanced (500,000 words), €2,990 per year

$11.70

$234.00

Weglot’s wording («total unique words translated across all your languages») can be read either way, so the table shows both. Weglot figures are in euros and LATW figures in US dollars; they are not converted.

Read this table with its limits in mind:

Check your own count. Your Weglot dashboard shows which reading applies to your site.

Weglot is a recurring price; the LATW numbers are one-off. A fair comparison also counts what you add later: new pages, product updates and new blog posts. With per-word billing, you pay for those words when you translate them. With Weglot, you pay the plan price for every period.

Quality classes differ. Economy uses a lower-cost model, suited to blog posts. Standard is aimed at landing pages and Premium at content like legal pages. You choose, and the estimate shows the cost before you start.

AI output needs a check. Review your key pages after any AI translation. Our post on what AI translation really costs covers the numbers, and cutting whole-site translation cost covers batch pricing.

The point is not that one number beats another. It is that the cost shape differs: Weglot charges a recurring fee that grows by tier, and per-word billing charges only when text changes.

How to decide

Use this short path:

Under 10,000 words, one language, and you want zero setup? Weglot’s Starter plan is likely fine. For two languages you are on Business, so run the numbers first.

Over a plan limit or close to a tier jump? Do the trims above first. Delete unused languages and unneeded pages.

Still paying for languages with little traffic? Compare per-word billing for those languages, since you only pay when you translate.

Care about keeping translations if you stop paying? Choose a model that stores them in your own CMS: a native plugin, or a per-word service that writes into your site.

Run many client sites? Count per-site pricing across all of them. On LATW Cloud, the Agency plan covers up to 30 sites on one account. Cost rises in steps, and the word limit counts unique words across all languages and does not renew (Weglot pricing page, checked 4 November 2026).

Is there a Weglot cost per language?

Not as a separate line. Language count is part of the plan. Business covers three languages, Pro five and Advanced ten, so the jump happens at those thresholds.

What happens if I go over the Weglot word limit?

You are emailed.
